The dental implant is used to hold a restoration to replace teeth since it provides a firm foundation. The way implants work is that a titanium screw is placed inside your jawbone. This may sound invasive, but the process can be surprisingly gentle.
Most people have no problem getting a dental implant with just local anaesthetic. Some say it is easier than having a tooth extraction.
Once this screw is placed, the bone will grow and “fuse” with it in a process called osseointegration. After some months, we can then attach the crown of the tooth onto it.
After the crown is placed on the implant, you can use it virtually in the same way as your own natural tooth. It will require maintenance, with brushing and flossing and use of interdental brushes.
You will need a pre-assessment in order to evaluate your suitability for an implant.
Considerations include your general health, including medical conditions, and local site assessment where the proposed implant would be placed.
